WERA GRAND NATIONAL FINALS

On Sunday, October 23, Bloodworth’s own Miki Hilton (#100) and Rick Horner (#414) set out to finish the racing season strong while competing in the 2016 WERA Grand National Finals. After two great practice sessions, however, Rick’s belt was sheared and he couldn’t find a replacement in time for the Heavyweight Twins Superbike race. It was certainly disappointing, especially since Rick’s best lap time in practice was 4 seconds faster than the guy who took first place in novice. Rick says he’s even more motivated now to get stronger and faster for next season and has an appetite for (sportsmanlike) vengeance – the podium will be his next year.

Miki was able to compete in the Heavyweight Twins Superbike race, battling with pros such as Taylor Knapp. After starting at position 15, he finished in fourth place but held third for a few laps too. Miki was able to make many improvements on his bike this year thanks to sponsors like CNC Racing, which manufactures the offset triple clamp and 30mm clutch slave cylinder used on his bike. Like Rick, he is also determined to come back next season and win a place on the podium every race.

Both guys want to thank their Bloodworth family – David, Virginia, the staff and the customers – for their continued support and encouragement. They also want to share a special thanks to their joint sponsor Bursi Evolution for providing special engine parts and also to CARMA Performance for dyno work and Thermos Man for adjustments with suspension. Stay tuned for future track days with these guys – and let them set you up here at Bloodworth for your own track experience!

WOMEN WHO WRENCH

Nashville Motos marketing coordinator, Abby Whisenant, isn’t afraid to get a little greasy – or silly – as pictured here. Abby purchased her 1972 Honda CB350 in August 2014, and during the following summer, the cylinders cracked near the cam chain chamber. Determined to still ride through the rest of the season, she patched it up with some trusty JB Weld and continued to ride as much as she could – even to Chattanooga where the bike was displayed for the first annual Relic Vintage Moto Show. Since February of this year, Abby has been rebuilding the engine little by little and just recently got the engine back in the frame! She has the service guys at Nashville Motos to thank for some of her progress too. Abby shares that this experience (her first mechanical one) has improved her confidence with all things moto – from riding to wrenching.

Abby’s female-centric motorcycle club, the Hellcats, often host shop nights for other women riders. Contact them directly to learn more – hellcatsmc@gmail.com.

THE THERMOS MAN LENDS A HAND

During the STT track day on Labor Day weekend, Mike Fitzgerald (aka Thermos Man) from Öhlins spent some time working on suspension for Miki Hilton #100 and Rick Horner #414. Both guys were really pleased with the changes Mike made, including changing the springs on the forks and rear shocks, adjusting rebound and compressions, and changing the geometry of the bikes.

By the end of the track day, Miki had been able to consistently keep up with his record lap time, and Rick was most impressed by the changes in rider comfort and performance in the corners from session to session.

The next track day at Barber is Sunday, October 16th, and it’s a very popular one so register for it ASAP!

BLOODWORTH CELEBRATES OUR FEMALE RIDERS

International Female Ride Day was an incredible event – good food, lots of sunshine, and a solid turnout from our Bloodworth community, several student riders from the MSF class, and one of our local women’s motorcycle clubs, the Hellcats! After enjoying a complimentary lunch, these ladies (and a few others) rode down River Road and over to Little Marrowbone Road.

More photos from the day are posted on our Facebook page here.

CONNECTING WITH OUR COMMUNITY

Nashville Motos supports many powerful programs and local nonprofit organizations, and last Thursday, we had a special visit from one of them – the Community Based Transition Program (CBTP) through Metro Public Schools. For many students with disabilities, obtaining and maintaining employment is an important goal – and often a difficult one to achieve. We are proud to share the business of motorcycles with this great group of young people each year, enjoying lunch together and discussing career opportunities within our field.
